Centre 42 survived the pandemic as a small and nimble team, with smaller spaces now. In that time, we’ve tirelessly supported artists to incubate text-based works, create new local plays, and document Singapore theatre history for future generations. Help us raise $42,000 to continue holding space for all that and fund the exciting plans we have in store!
We’ve journeyed alongside 170+ artists and theatre collectives, supported 200+ new theatrical projects to the finish line, and welcomed 40,000+ audience members to theatre. With your unwavering support over the past 8 years, we are proud to have contributed to a thriving ecosystem for theatre -making.
Paving the way for 2023 and beyond, we're amplifying our efforts on several exciting fronts! Pledge your support to journey with us and our local theatre scene by backing specific initiatives such as the New Writing Development Programmes, growing the C42 Archive of SG Theatre, furthering the discourse on Dramaturgy and a multiplayer virtual space Cloud House, for imagining artist projects in the digital realm.
Be invested in one (or all four) of these exciting C42 Projects and make them yours too! We'll provide you with milestone project updates, Behind-the-Scenes stories and exclusive invitations to our in-person presentations and socials.
In Jan 2022, we embarked on our biggest and boldest project everto provide a comprehensive documentation of Singapore's theatre: the C42 Archive of Singapore Theatre! Since then, the archive has grown twice in size through labour-intensive outreach and documentation efforts - we now have published 2000+ productions, profiled ~500 organisations and ~7,000 people!
We are still going at it and would like to invite you to help us! By supporting us, not only will you be helping to document past theatre productions, but you will also be keeping this Archive free and accessible for everyone.

In Aug 2022, we launched a suite of new writing development programmes to advocate for the work of playwrights. Putting writers at the heart of it all, our programmes seek to provide a range of exposure, writing-support, and professional development opportunities for playwrights across varying experience levels. These initiatives were formulated from a period of deep research in the local theatre scene. Since then, we have met more than a dozen playwrights at where they are at with tailored support towards honing their craft in playwriting.
But there is still so much to be done! As we continue to support new writing for the theatre, we would like for you to join us in cheering our playwrights on as they hone their craft. With your support, we can continue providing these programmes to seed new works and amplify bold voices.
Donate now to support our upcoming playwrights and be their very first fans. Every small bit counts!
In the midst of the 2020 pandemic, when performing arts spaces were forced shut, a team of creative and tech collaborators began a mammoth task to document Centre 42's beloved blue house as its own virtual world. The desire stemmed from a want to preserve memories, but it led to the curiosity in exploring and expanding opportunities to create theatre and build community beyond physical spaces. Today, we term such 'spaces' as the metaverse.
With limited access to funding, this passion project was built upon hours of commitment and a common goal to create a virtual space for practitioners, by practitioners.
This year-end, the Cloud House will open its doors to meet everyone! Discover the futuristic site as an avatar and interact with others in the multi-player world. Bonus! You will encounter our very first theatrical experience titled 'Love Letters to 42', a filmic story shot in 2020 that captures the history of pre-pandemic C42 at 42 Waterloo Street!
The digital possibilities are endless! The Cloud House is a growing platform with new features added modularly over time as we invite artists to collaborate on digital projects. With your support, we will be able to improve and upgrade our little metaverse, and offer virtual creative residencies to dream up new exciting experiences in this world.

The Asian Dramaturgs' Network (ADN) was formed in 2016 with the intent of mapping and networking the region's dramaturgical experience and knowledge. 6 years on, with the support of Centre 42, ADN has accumulated a wealth of knowledge from a network of theatremakers, cultural producers and performance scholars in the wider Asian region who contributed at annual conferences and regional gatherings.
In 2023, C42 will be publishing ADN's first book titled "(Asian) Dramaturgs’ Network: Sensing, complexity, tracing and doing". This book gathers the histories, findings and futures of ADN, and also seeks to answer these two questions: Are there Asian or Asia-based dramaturgies of practice and performance? How does one write about these with contextually grounded frames and beyond Eurocentric paradigms? Comprising edited papers, essays, interviews, case studies and documentation, this book will provide answers and posit the future of dramaturgy in and for theatre in the region. It's possibly also the first of its kind on dramaturgy in this part of the world.
Planning and editorial work on the book has begun since the start of the year. The editorial team consists of Charlene Rajendran and Peter Eckersall as lead editors, and Anuradha Kapur, Chong Gua Khee, Daniel Teo, Dominic Nah, Nanako Nakajima and Ugoran Prasad.
If you're a dramaturg, a performing arts practitioner, educator or student, this book will be a useful resource for you! Support this project and be one of the first to receive a copy of this book before it goes on sale in the later part of 2023.
The 1925 Brewing Co. was founded in 2013 in Singapore, and remains proudly Singaporean till today. Founded by two brothers and their uncle, the company bears the birth year of their grandfather; a tribute to the first generation of Singaporeans, honouring the spirit and grit they embodied that helped build the country, with the hope of passing on the same torch to the later generations.
All the beers we brew are inspired not only by our fondest memories whilst growing up, but also, what we hope to redefine as beers befitting the Asian palate.
Being brewed proudly in Singapore, it is hardly surprising to find our beers featuring a plethora of Asian flora and herbs, and even with different styles of Asian teas.
1925 Brewing Co has created a limited-edition brew for C42's Small Ways to 42k campaign and will be donating $1 from the sale of each bottle to this fundraiser, from 17 December to 31 May 2022.
