Overview

Through practical and physical exercises we will explore how dramaturgy/the dramaturg can contribute to the creative process as witness, dialogue partner and ‘editor’. We will discuss some of the underlying principles of the creative process and offer concrete tools and methodologies to organise the dramaturgical dialogue.

The final goal of the workshop is to gain a different, renewed perspective of one’s own creative and compositional process and methodologies.

This masterclass is suitable for performing arts practitioners with some level of dramaturgical thinking awareness and/or experience working with dramaturgs.

Guy Cools' presence in Singapore is co-hosted by C42 and Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay.

Documentation

A semicircle of people seated in chairs, facing a person seated beside an easel.

Guy does a round of introductions to better understand the participants' interest in dramaturgy, and shares more about his career, his practice, and the way he operates as a dance dramaturg.

A room full of people seated on the floor with large sheets of paper, drawing and writing.

Guy leads the participants to take part in two activities, which push them to think about their upcoming creative projects from different perspectives. These activities have the participants creating mind maps, as well as visualising their projects as a series of rooms.
