FAQ

Who is this platform for?

Playwrights who have been working professionally in the past 5 to 10 years.

What kind of residents are you looking for? How do you decide the suitability of the application?

Writers should be eager and able to participate in the life of Centre 42, whether through working with younger writers, facilitating a number of public workshops and in-house studio sessions. The playwright in residence should have either work(s) in development they would like to present during the residency, or ideas for revisiting older bodies of work.

What kind of support will you provide?

We offer a modest stipend, working space, and access to workshop and rehearsal space. In addition, we will produce up to two public reading events for the resident, and house a public workshop to be run by the Writer in Residence.

What is expected of the Writer in Residence?

The Writer in Residence will participate in the New Scripts Garage in various roles: as a reader, a facilitator, or provide one-on-one dramaturgy for selected scripts for the season. They will also deliver a public workshop of their own design at some point during the residency.

How often do you accept Writers in Residence? How do I apply for this residency?

From 2024, we will host one writer a year, for a term of six to 12 months. The residency is currently by invitation only. However, if you’re eligible and interested in the residency, send us an expression of interest via email, and we will get back to you to set up a chat.
