The Playwright–Dramaturg Sharing & Social returns in 2026 as a year-long series of gatherings dedicated to script sharing, collective reflection, and connection between playwrights and dramaturgs.

Across three evenings, each session invites you into a Community Script Circle, an open and supportive space where works-in-progress are read aloud and explored through dialogue. The focus is on process, creating room for questions, instincts, and unexpected discoveries to emerge through conversation.

At each edition, two playwrights will have excerpts of their scripts shared and discussed. Participants are welcome to submit their work, with selected pieces featured on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beyond the circle, the evening opens into a relaxed social setting. This is a chance to meet fellow theatre-makers, connect with our Dramaturgs-in-Residence, learn more about how to Engage-a-Dramaturg, and continue conversations over drinks, snacks, and plenty of script talk.

We kicked off our first Playwright-Dramaturg Sharing & Social of 2026 with an introduction by facilitator Juliet Chia. She welcomed participants and shared about the structure and flow for the night, with particular focus on the rules of engagement for the community script circle.

Excerpts from two plays - Carpe Diem by Ryan Ong and The Hanging Garden by Timothy Yam - were read by participants who volunteered to play different characters from the texts.

Following the readings, participants had the opportunity to raise questions and share thoughts and feedback to the playwrights.

The evening concluded with free time for participants to engage in enriching conversations over refreshments - not just with one another, but also with our Dramaturgs-in-Residence! Our three dramaturgs had the chance to speak to interested participants about their dramaturgical practice, organically finding ways in which they could collaborate on ideas and projects beyond the sharing and social.

Our July Playwright-Dramaturg Sharing & Social was facilitated by one of our Dramaturgs-in-Residence, Hemang Yadav. Hemang opened the session with a brief self-introduction and a rundown of the structure of the sharing and social.

The event began with a reading of short excerpts from two scripts - Chasing Emily by Ivan Choong and COMPANION.EXE by Dameris Khoo. Participants volunteered to read for different characters, bringing the text to life.

Each reading was followed by a short minute of silence for participants to reflect on what they had heard. Afterwards, they offered questions, concerns, and feedback on the script to the playwright, in accordance with the social's rules of engagement.

After the readings concluded, participants had the opportunity to mingle and make new connections. Interested participants could also seek out our three Dramaturgs-in-Residence - Jean Tay, Olivia Vong, and Hemang Yadav - to get to know them and their practice, and seek advice and opportunities for future collaboration.
