Playwright Nabilah Said has been our Writer-in-Residence for the term 2025-2026, exploring new ways of working and revisiting existing plays to uncover fresh possibilities. Alongside developing her exciting Christmas Island play Territori, she has also created a special audio-play iteration of that play world.
As part of Spring Collection 2025/2026: New Plays from Centre 42, this process-sharing session on 28 March invites Nabilah and fellow playwright Joel Tan to discuss the iterative nature of her practice: how a play world can be continually re-examined to reveal new points of entry. They will explore Nabilah’s movement and sound “jams” and reflect on how experimenting with these modalities has influenced both her current and older works.

Nabilah's process sharing was presented in three parts, each part focusing on a different aspect of the Territori project. Nabilah and Joel engaged in conversation about Nabilah's writing and development process. The discussion was followed by the reading of several excerpts from different iterations of the script.

Excerpts were read by (from left) Shafiqhah Efandi, Kysha Ashreen, and Irsyad Dawood, playing different roles.

Centre 42 would like to thank everyone involved in Nabilah's process sharing, and we look forward to seeing how Territori continues to develop in the future!
