Celebrated theatre-maker Chay Yew is visiting Centre 42 for a dialogue on his career, craft, and the intricacies of making theatre. Chay Yew started writing plays in Singapore, before eventually moving to the USA where, as a director, playwright, and producer, he became a leading figure in the American theatre.
Chay Yew has made work at iconic New York venues like the Public Theatre, Playwrights Horizon, Lincoln Centre, as well as festivals and theatres across the USA and internationally, and has worked with major American playwrights including David Henry Hwang, Lucas Hnath, Luis Alfaro and Marcus Gardley. He was the artistic director of the Tony Award winning Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago from 2011-2020, which saw the theatre become a major centre for new writing and landmark work by writers from under-represented communities.
This is an opportunity for theatre makers of all stripes-- writers, directors, actors, designers, producers and managers-- to tap on a wealth of insight gleaned from a life of making theatre at the highest levels.
