Meng Jiang Nü meets Fan Qi Liang, a scholar on the run from the Emperor's soldiers seeking forced conscripts to work on the Great Wall. They fall in love and get married. On the day of the wedding, soldiers barge in and take Fan away to labour at the Wall.&nbsp;

Meng Jiang Nü sets off to find her husband. She arrives at the Wall, only to learn that Fan has died and is buried underneath the Great Wall. Stricken with grief, Meng cries. The Great Wall collapses and Fan's remains are uncovered.


The Great Wall: One Woman's Journey (2017)

The play begins on the deck of a violent ship at sea in the middle of a violent tempest. Amid loud sounds of thunder and flashes of lightning, the sailors fight to bring down the sails in order to control the ship.
