Yi Kai has acted on stage and screen, in seven languages and counting. Her stage credits include Wild Rice's HOTEL (Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards: Production of the Year, Best Ensemble, Singapore International Festival of Arts, Singapore Theatre Festival, OzAsia Festival in Adelaide), Press Gang (Singapore Theatre Festival) and Public Enemy (Best Supporting Actress nomination). She played Sheila in J.B. Priestley’s An Inspector Calls (Wild Rice) and Ricky Roma in David Mamet’s Glengarry Glen Ross (Episode 7 Theatre Film). She also starred in Joel Tan's Mosaic (M1 Fringe Festival, Lit Up! Singapore Indie Arts Festival), Euginia Tan's Tuition (Twenty-Something Theatre Festival) and The Rat Trap (Gateway Theatre), musicals by Peranakan Siblings, Checkpoint Theatre's staged readings, and various Centre 42 readings of scripts written by Jo Tan, Ng Yi-Sheng and Su Ching Teh. Her screen credits include Baby Bumps (Channel 5 Telemovies, Mediacorp) directed by Li Lin Wee, Glimpse (明月盒) (Cathay Motion Picture Awards finalist) and To Mum (Love, Me), a short film screened at IndigNation, Singapore's queer festival, and at festivals around the world.

Yi Kai is a Wolf Trap Teaching Artist with the Singapore Theatre Company (formerly SRT), a special needs drama educator with ACT 3 Theatrics, and a London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art instructor in international schools.

She sings, plays the guitar, loves cycling, climbing and trail runs, and has written a song about fear, imagination and dinosaurs.
