Aku dan/si Mat CD tells the story of a young man thrown out of his comfort zone while serving his nation. Rizal, fresh from completing his 'A' Levels is enlisted into the Singapore Civil Defence Force, finds himself surrounded by unfamiliar characters. Having lived in a bubble all his life, Rizal now shares a bunk with gang members, school dropouts and drug users. Aku dan/si Mat CD explores the stigma attached to the Mat CD through the juxtaposition of two extreme ends of the Malay community. The negotiations that take place in the bunk reflect a community that speaks with the same tongue yet struggles to find a common language.
