It is the late 1960's. Kampong Chempedak was once a thriving and busy village but is now quiet. The younger or more well-off families have moved to the new housing estates, and all that remain are a handful of senior citizens. The day comes when they are all asked to move out and live in flats. Although many want to leave the kampong for newer and better surroundings, one or two find it hard to leave their old life.
Kampong Chempedak references the rapid urbanisation of Singapore in the past few decades where hundreds of villages, also known as kampongs, were demolished to make way for newer developments. This play explores the dilemma between embracing change and clinging on to sentiments of the good old days.
