There goes the song of the 50's and how it still reverberates today. Festival Pintu is a play that celebrates anything and everything that is associated with the notion of a door. To a white-collar executive a door is opportunity that goes unnoticed as he goes through the banality of routine life. To his wife it is a veil that hides her inner dark secrets. To a contractor it is a source of living and an opening to others' lives and pretence. To the religious teacher it is a promise of salvation to whom he preaches or a slip into the abyss of his own hypocrisy. To a prisoner it is freedom lost and solace gained.

In the play, all these doors open up to the ultimate door of the cranium of a man. The question which remains unanswered till the end; is who is responsible for the closure of the door of his mind and soul.

The play is envisaged as a festival of sorts as the title suggests. Ironically behind the celebration is the grim truth that ideologies are only part of the equation that is responsible for extreme acts of suicide bombings. The play attempts to reveal other sources of the loneliness and alienation that drive one to such cowardice and desperation.

'Siapa yang menggonggong? Siapa yang digonggong?' Who barks? Who is being barked at? Festival Pintu will chase these questions right up to the door of your curiosity.
