Synopsis

As March 8 was “Women’s Day”, SING’THEATRE celebrated it with the Asian Premiere of 8 WOMEN, a comedy written originally in French by Robert Thomas.

8 WOMEN was turned into a worldwide famous movie starring Catherine Deneuve and premiered in London in March 2011 at Southwark Playhouse - London with rave reviews.

Set in France in the 50’s, in a large country mansion a few days before Christmas, the man of the house is found murdered! But who could have “dunnit”?

Isolated from the rest of the village it could only be one of the 8 women in the household.

Was it his powerful and beautiful Singaporean wife (Tan Kheng Hua), with a knife ? His spinster sister-in-law (Serene Chen), with poison ?
His miserly mother-in-law (Neo Swee Lin), with a rope ? Or maybe it’s the seductive French chambermaid (Morgane Stroobant) or the devoted Indian helper (Daisy Irani) with a pillow ? The perfect elder daughter (Sophie Wee) and the malicious younger one (Julia Abueva) are not beyond suspicion either.

A surprise visit from the victim’s sister (Kimberly Creasman) sends the household into more confusion!

As events unfold, we discover each woman has a motive, each a plan, and someone is hiding the biggest secret of all… Murder!

This murder-mystery dark comedy will keep you entertained and guessing till the very, VERY, end!

8 WOMEN boasts a multigenerational and multicultural local stellar cast of 8 wonderful women, making it uniquely Singaporean.

“The play captured my attention from the get go," says award-winner Director Samantha Scott-Blackhall. "It’s got murder, it’s got mystery and it’s got 8 women, all suspects, trapped in a house with nowhere to run! Armed with some of Singapore’s best talents, I’m very excited to showcase the once very famous French film to our audiences here. Collaborating with a creative team of geniuses, I can confess my excitement about the conceptualization of this play. And I can’t say too much, but I have a few secrets up my sleeve too…”

8 Women (2013), Review
Whydunit? The good news is that almost everything that's wrong with the show can be fixed overnight. The good news is that almost everything that's wrong with 8 Women can be fixed overnight. The bad news is that on its Good Friday opening night, it is in pretty ropey shape. Some of the problems are the standard opening-night jitters – a lost line hastily saved; some minor flubs here and there; a general lack of crispness – and no doubt these will sort themselves out as the run continu

8 Women (2013), Review
Girls, Interrupted A set should not be this distracting. A set should not be this distracting. Sing'theatre's production of comedy murder mystery 8 Women is plagued by what appears to be a desire to be seen to be doing a lot of things at once. However, at no point does it seem to have asked, "Is this necessary? And does this work?" Watching the resulting production, I must have gone through a little of what someone with Attention Deficiency Disorder experiences: my attention was constant
