Mosaic (2013), Review
Chen Ying Xuan has it right when she notes in her director's message that she "still can't find a straight answer" for what Joel Tan's play is about. Set in an 80s-built HDB playground about to be torn down, it seems to want to be about memory, but Tan doesn't do nearly enough with theme or backstory to make that happen. On the contrary, Mosaic's needlessly padded-out scenes situate the play in an interminable present. Nonetheless, Tan has a keen ear for dialogue and is able to craft some genuinely fun
