TheatreWorks, Singapore's foremost English language theatre company makes its debut in this year’s Festival with Descendants of the Eunuch Admiral, an epic saga of dreams, desire... and drugs.
Playwright Kuo Pao Kun and director Ong Keng Sen, two illuminaries of the Singapore theatre scene come together for the third time to collaborate in this original play. Their last collaboration was the critically acclaimed TheatreWorks production of Lao Jiu in 1993.
Descendants of the Eunuch Admiral is theatre at its best. A multi-layered tale featuring music (specially composed by Phoon Yew Tien), song, dance and movement, it combines folklore, history and ritual to present a production that is exciting, eclectic and contemporary.
